The new “mower”

With the myriad of dandelions going to seed around (and in) the garden and with the ride-on mower and tractor out of commission, Joël was eager to convince us that we needed to purchase a scythe. Although still in hot debate (be it scythe like knife or scythe like sieve – if you say it out loud, that sentence makes more sense) it’s effectiveness, and usefulness, has been proven. And yes, it looks pretty cool in action too.

Believe it or not, it’s just as fast as the “fouet” minus the vibrations and irritating sound. Now if only the eagerly awaited transplanter could arrive, everybody would be temporarily sated!

A little side bar advice for the parents out there who are also blessed with free spirited little munchkins, do not try to tackle Lee Valley without a stroller! I am amazed I don’t have grey hairs following the experience which included a good deal of chasing, really long line-ups, chisels, Kamé “shoplifting” a flowery magazine and some seriously unsanitary display box licking. The scythe was a pain to carry out with Mateo under one arm, Kamé’s new shovel under the other and me begging the blonde dervish to hold on to something while walking through the parking lot and no, yanking on Mateo’s leg didn’t help or count as holding on to something. Just another one of those moments when I wish I had chocolate on me…

We’ve been looking for an eco friendly lawn mower as the goats can’t eat fast enough, and we don’t want them in certain areas. Would you recommend a scythe as a solution?
