And the one before was pretty productive too. Among many squash related meals (including yummy winter squashy lasagna and butternut muffins) we had a bunch of work parties in the garden. How the scenery changes when the cucumber and tomato stakes are removed! Many tasks were tackled and completed – yay! All the green and hot pepper, eggplant, tomatillo, snow pea, tomato, cucumber, summer and winter
squash plants are out of the garden and, at least in part, in the bellies of the piggies. Who were relocated as well (go Joel, Louis and Julie!), which is no small task with all the electric fencing to move around, but it looks as though we’ll have another few weeks before moving them into the big garden to finish the season. The Winter coop has been cleaned out, posts are out and bundled and stored, whatever was edible and forgotten on the removed plants has been harvested, and all the twine used is put away for next year.
But that was Thanksgiving weekend, last weekend was our annual Harvest Stew Potluck with CSA members and friends of the farm. It was a lovely bonfire and food centric evening peppered with great music and happy, albeit chilly, kiddies. Thanks to James, Julie and Nora the remaining potatoes have made their way from the clay to the storage shed. Jean-Pierre has almost finished winterizing the bee hives, so things really are wrapping up around here. And just on time, guess who just got the keys to the new coffee shop in Rockland?
Many hands made light work indeed! Thanks everyone!
