With organic certification comes the requirement to source organic seeds. We have always bought organic seeds when they were readily available, but now I’m spending days (well, a day and a half) trying to track the availability of specific varieties that we are especially fond of. In many cases we’re switching to similar varieties that are organic — otherwise I have to document the search effort to demonstrate to the certifying agency that we’ve done everything we could to find an organic source. Incredibly time-consuming (hopefully only for our first year), but the upside is that I’m finding all kinds of wild and wonderful varieties out there… The goal is to place all of the seed orders today, so back to work!
