July 9th Harvest Note

In today’s basket:
– cilantro
– dill (I am convinced that dill and eggs were made for each other…well, until cucumbers are in your basket and then I’ll be saying they’re a perfect match too)
– Hakurei summer turnips (Eat those greens! They taste a whole lot like the turnips themselves. We had them in phyllo for lunch — spanakopita style.)
– Namenia turnip tops (In addition to the turnip tops on the summer turnips just to be extra clear.)
– French Breakfast or Sora radishes
– delicious mesclun (Thank you to everyone who has sent over their winter spinach/lettuce/mache containers — they made packing uber easy!)
– arugula
– and three kinds of lettuce (Red Star, Red Cross and Berenice), so happy salad eating! I know we’ll be having a spicy lettuce cake in the very near future.
– snow peas
– a few garlic scapes
– sprouty sunflower sprouts
– and the very first summer squash babes of the season!

Recipe idea using a mix of almost everything in the basket: Green Quesadillas. Maybe with sauteed garlic scapes and turnips, add some greens to steam them a bit then throw on some cheese and put all that in a wrap with some mesclun, cilantro and sprouts for good measure… num num.
