The summers always seem to fly by and this season is certainly wrapping up with the surprise night frosts, the shorter days and the last of the baskets. All season’s have their perks to be sure (I for one love overdosing on Swiss Chard at this time of the year), but we Summer has a special space in our hearts.
In our prefarming days Winter always seemed to drag on, but now it seems to fly by too! As our friend Juniper said the other day, when everyone is happy to see the sun come back after Winter Solstice, we are sad to see the darkness go. That’s not true every single day of Winter, but it definitely reflects our appreciation for the calmer, slower and introverted months of the year. We all love to see the first sprouts pop out of the ground, but I think we enjoy the forced break Winter provides. Get to catch our breath a little, and get off the farm a bit more.
That said, Winter is not here yet and we would love to have you over for an end of season wrap up next next weekend. So if you are up for an outdoorsy potluck lunch on Saturday, October 6th – we will gladly give you a tour of the farm and talk about the plans for next year. Since it’s the long weekend and we may not get to see all of you, we’re also going to do a bonfire soirée ;o) at the end of October…details to come on that one.
Directions to the farm:
Take the 174 eastbound toward Orleans & Rockland. Follow past Cumberland, then Rockland. Take a right onto Landry, aka Regional Road 8, toward Clarence Creek (there’s a MacEwen at that intersection). Take a left onto Baseline Road, just after a power station. Take your second right onto Pilon Road. We’re at 1289 Pilon Road (1277 as well, but our house is at 1289).
