Coffee stats

I’ve been reading Roast magazine for a few years, my main connection to the exciting world of specialty coffee. The most recent issue has some interesting statistics I wanted to share:

Canada’s forecasted domestic (not Timmies or 2nd cup etc.) annual consumption of coffee for 2009-2010 is 1,950,000  60 kg bags. That means as a roaster, I represent 1/130,000th of domestic coffee in Canada. Well, a little more than that. Neat, eh? It isn’t much, but it’s still interesting to know. I am also reminded of how large the market can be… that’s a lot of coffee.
