Mondays are usually tough, because they follow Sundays. Although theoretically we don’t work on Sundays, they are really catch-up days. Catching up on everything that didn’t get done through the week, before we start another round. So when Monday morning rolls around I would really rather sleep in, at least until 7:00 o’clock or so.
This particular Monday loomed a lot worse, because I was facing a harvest day on my own. Fortunately the day dawned beautiful, and cool (which, although bad for the tomatoes and peppers, makes the work much lighter); and Nicolas turned up to help with the potatoes; and Robert was there steadfastedly (he’ll like that word) working all day.
The basket are pretty basic, except that there is one tiny hot pepper in each — it’s the smallest of the lot of very small peppers; and blue potatoes may come as a surprise to some folks!
There is also a Sun Jewel melon, some onions, a bunch of carrots including Purple Haze and White Satin, garlic, a small lettuce, beans, tomatoes, fingerling potatoes, cucumber, summer squash, and a bit of tarragon and oregano.
