A chick update

Last week, Joël posted a video of the chicks on the French side of the site (in case you didn’t know, we decided not to go the translation route and just have the author write in the language of their inspiration so if you are bilingual and itching to read more, click the Ferme du Covenant link on the bottom-ish right) so I thought we should give an update on here as well. And what perfect timing, as I was filming the second batch in the hatchery started poking out of their shells. Birth is so cool! Witnessing how animals do it so very instinctually reminds me that the body really knows what it’s doing if we trust it and listen to it. But without further ado, the chickeroos…

Since we don’t clip their wings (or beaks for that matter) they are attempting levitation, and quite successfully actually. We are currently debating where they should go as they are getting a little big for the space they have and, well, become slightly more odorific. They need the warming light for a few more weeks and since the smell of skunks is still lingering in the air we’re not sure the summer coop is in the cards for right now. The small greenhouse is nice and cozy so it’s on the radar as a possible interim home. Hmmmm….
