You know, Joël should be writing this entry, but his to do list is already never ending and I fear even his mountain of curly hair couldn’t help contain any more items or ideas that overflow from that head of his. Soooo, I thought I’d mention that after years of desperately wanting to be a blacksmith, Joël has taken courses, bought a forge, anvil, hammers and welding equipment (over the last few years) and has been working on his first contract for the last few weeks. He is putting together 18 wrought iron panels (with lovely twists) to go around the pool and, in my opinion, make the farm even prettier. He’s going to pick up the cedar posts in Smith Falls sometime this week (if that rainy weather should come our way soon, that would be super) and hopefully have the final product painted and up before the end of June.
Did I mention that on our first date, a decade or so ago, Joël said he wanted to be a shepherd? ;o) I’m sure the future will bring a flock of sheep to the hill behind the gardens…

I would add that Joël has booted the vegetable-cleaning-and-basket-assembly operation out of what is now his forge, so we are a little lost as to where to set up shop for the coming season. Jean-Pierre is making a platform that will become the interns’ outdoor kitchen next summer, so our most recent idea is to use that for assembling baskets this year, adding a used gazebo-shelter for some shade. Why oh why didn’t Lloyd and June, way back then, buy a farm with a barn?!?
